WHEN
SHOULD I SERVICE MY TRANSMISSION?
In our shop we get asked this question quite often. Most manufacturers
recommend that you change you transmission fluid every 30,000
miles and we agree 100%. Not to say that every 15,000 miles
isn't a great idea as well, but most people don't need to spend
$70-$90 on a transmission service that often. At this time we
do not recommend total fluid exchanges. Simply change the fluid
per the manufacturers recommended procedure. If you have never
changed your fluid and your vehicle has over 60,000 miles, I
recommend that you not service it. I also recommend that you
use a BG transmission additive. If your repair shop does not
offer this product you can purchase it from us.

WHAT IS A TUNE UP?
According to Webster's Dictionary, a tune-up is a general adjustment
to insure operation at peak efficiency. In the automotive repair
business the word tune-up is considered a joke. Most of your
late model vehicles have little to no adjustment at all, but
they do have many maintenance components that need to be changed
on a scheduled basis. Some of these are spark plugs, plug wires,
fuel and air filters. I recommend that the spark plugs be replaced
every 30,000 miles. I know many manufacturers say they will
last up to 100,000 miles, the only problem with that is they
probably can't be removed from the cylinder head, and now you
have a major repair job on your hands. So if you think your
car needs a "tune-up", take your car to your repair shop and
explain to them that either you want a "maintenance tune-up"
or your car is running poorly and these are the symptoms.
